Upper Extremity Rehabilitation
Central Hand Therapy, PC opened in September 1998 to provide quality and effective care for patients with injuries, surgical and non-surgical conditions of the shoulder, elbow, wrist and hand.

Although the Central Hand Therapy team utilizes many interventions in order to attain the best result possible, they have found that the most effective treatments, resulting in successful outcomes, rely on the blending of manual therapy, exercise and patient education. Principles of pilates and Feldenkrais Method are also taught for improving quality of movement.

Pediatric Outpatients
Southern Arizona Community Occupational Therapy Associates (SACOTA) provides specialized care for children with an array of sensory, neurodevelopmental and social needs. The team evaluates children to determine the strength and/or weakness of their sensory systems, patterns and efficiency of motor functions, inter-hemispheric communications, as well as social relatedness.

You will find children who are identified as learning disabled, emotionally disabled or attention deficit often carry the same behaviors seen in a sensory processing deficiency. By developing these sensory areas you will find that those behaviors and or academics improve.

Beginning with this evaluation, the team designs an integrated and flexible program that provides the “right amount of challenge” to the child in order to strengthen weak sensory systems and provide appropriate use of the child’s muscles and proprioceptive abilities. Playful obstruction and floor time help engage the child in the therapeutic relationship.

School Based Occupational Therapy
Southern Arizona Community Occupational Therapy Associates (SACOTA) provides school-based support for special needs students to assist with their success in the educational environment.

Beginning with a thorough evaluation of the child’s needs and individualized classroom goals, the team designs a program to help the child gain the skills and tools needed to develop into productive and contributing students. Occupational Therapy staff work closely with other team members and provide in-classroom support to teachers and teacher’s assistants to maximize the student’s learning potential.

Working Hands
STARTING NOVEMBER 2010!

Group Purpose

Encourage appropriate social communication and help facilitate improved neurological and physical function through rhythmic and purposeful working tasks, group dynamics and process. Using a farm environment as the landscape for this group, and simple farm tasks as the medium, children will work with adults and their peers.  Incentives for appropriate engagement will be given using a token system.  Participants will be given the opportunity to earn incentives based on work performance, appropriate social engagement, and cooperative group effort.  All participants will be expected to follow the “rules of engagement” that will clearly be provided prior to group activity.
